Frequently Asked Questions
Re. the ECUANET & Partner Organisation Relationship

Prospective Partner Organisations are asking questions about the working relationship during the ECUANET project.

Questions and answers are given below:

1) How does the organisation select someone to be seconded to the project?

2) What is the time commitment?

3) What are the core competencies required to be considered for secondment?

4) What are the reporting relationships within the project?

5) What is a corporate university?

1) How does the organisation select someone to be seconded to the project?

The person(s) selected should have the opportunity to obtain broad experience of the organisation structure, systems and processes. They should have a working knowledge of how their HR strategy is formulated and implemented and the extent to which delegation takes place between different activities/entities. The individual(s) involved should be well aware of training and development/regulatory performance standards and policies and plans for improvement in lifelong learning and vocational education.

It is recommended that this is a career development project for the individual(s), which will ultimately lead to higher senior management positions. An extended scope research project may require local task groups or teams to be formed. Team working knowledge and people management skills are essential qualities of the primary contact person if this is the case.

2) What is the time commitment?

Familiarisation training with the action research toolkits, through ECUANET - 3 days.

To thoroughly complete one action research intervention at corporate level, including interviewing, discussion and documenting - we estimate 5 days spread over a period of time which will be influenced by the availability of information and interview availability of key personnel.

Further action research into current practice within divisions, operating entities or subsidiaries - estimated time 3 days per entity.

3) What are the core competencies required to be considered for secondment?

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • CIT capability in elearning infrastructure management, detailed recording, storage and transmission of information

  • Motivated to learn about action research methodologies and related information management skills

  • Ability to work independently and organise detailed work plans

  • Skills in style, structure and presentation in research reporting

  • Have conceptual skills at the higher levels as defined in the Career Path Appreciation framework, ref Gillian Stamp.

  • They should be thoroughly conversant with all formal qualifications and standards that are embedded in the different career paths of the organisation.

4) What are the reporting relationships within the project?

The ECUANET Core Partners will provide detailed direction and support throughout the action research process.

To assist in establishing a cohesive working relationship and a high standard of research the Core Partners will provide Partner Organisations with 3 best practice action research toolkits dealing with 1) Relationship Management, 2) Management of the Research Process, and 3) Research Editing and Reporting.

Each Partner Organisation will relate to and receive direction as  required from the ECUANET Core Partner with whom the initial relationship was established. In order that academy best practice can be identified between different research projects, it is important that the researchers in the Partner Organisation use the ECUANET research toolkits in a disciplined way, carefully recording any variations or additions that have been introduced in its application.

These research outcomes should be countersigned by a senior manager in the Partner Organisation as a true and fair reflection of current practice in the organisation.

Research outcomes are to be presented in the formats as defined in  ECUANET toolkit 3.

In order to maximise the benefits of ECUANET participation Partner Organisations may wish to explore the possibility of using the ECUANET Action Research Project as an internal learning and development programme in Academy Management Best Practice.
